The KiCAD software is a free and open-source Electronic Design Automation package. Sometimes people ask how they actually get started. I know it can be intimidating, new things usually are. Below are detailed instructions on how to install KiCAD on to your Apple Mac. These same instructions can be used for installing updated versions as well.
From there the middle blue button in the top banner is the download link.
Select Your Operating System
From here, you can select the version you need based on your operating system. I'm using a Mac Mini, so I would use the MacOS button.
Select Your Download Server
KiCAD is hosted on several servers worldwide. Select a server in your region. You may find that the download is unusually slow. This is normal. It is a very slow download.
Drag The Icon To Install
From here, you need to drag-and-drop the KiCAD icon into your 'Applications' area on your workstation.
Now goto your 'SpotLight Search' by holding down the command key, while pressing the space bar. Type in 'KiCAD' and the KiCAD Project Manager will open right up and now, you are fully setup to get started using KiCAD. I'd love to see what you come up with.
